“If you’re gonna ride it, you better know how to work on it.”

Founded by Hindes brothers Jake and Zach, Prism Supply makes custom bikes, parts, and accessories out of Charlotte, NC. We met them through our friend Rob, who’d worked on some short films with them in the past and had asked us to step in and see where we could take things for their latest brand piece.

We started out with some conversation and research – looking into who they are and what their brand is about. We talked with them about their people, their work, and all the best spots they enjoy riding at.

Given we’d be filming motorcycles primarily outdoors, the backdrops and scenes were going to be crucial. We had to spend a large amount of time digging for locations and thinking of out of the ordinary places for them to ride at. The hope was to not be stuck with a bunch of very North Carolina looking locations. We were trying to land on as much of a variety of actions, textures, and palettes as we could – all while still living in a very rural southern sort of tone. Everything had to be done in 2 days, so we had to play heavily into available light and planning when we’d be at each location to maximize where the sun would be.

Initially, we had some ideas for incorporating some conversation among the guys into the piece – a sort of story being recalled and enjoyed by the group. But ultimately we went away from that “what made us who we are” Americana type vibe and tried to go towards a bit more of a mysterious, reckless, iconic sort of feeling.

Once we had everything teed up, we set up some basic parameters to the scenes and some guidance for actions to get the non-actors comfortable – encouraging them towards what we liked and steering them away from things that didn’t work so well. The whole production hinged on the whole crew pushing hard all the way to the end and the results show just how commited the whole team was!
